Tesla boss feels urge to do house technology – also for cybertruck? > teslamag.de

An old idea is a constant concern of Tesla CEO Elon Musk – and after a new Twitter statement from him, he won’t be able to resist it for long, despite all the other major projects already underway at Tesla and SpaceX: “I would like to for my life make a super efficient HVAC system with HEPA and water distillation, ”Musk wrote. It was strange of him, but he still wanted it anyway, added the Tesla boss – and that the system might also be found in the cyber truck.

Good addition to Tesla’s portfolio

Most recently, Musk had raised the issue in connection with the new Tesla Model Y. In contrast to previous models, a heat pump for more efficient heating was discovered. The Tesla CEO then described it as the best engineering work that he had seen in a long time and said that the production of a system for heating, ventilation and air conditioning at home (HVAC) was also interesting for Tesla. At that time he also mentioned moisture regulation. And as the blog Electrek reports, Musk already spoke in an interview in late summer 2018 about a possible Tesla air conditioning.

Not only because it could also be adapted to be used in the Cybertruck and perhaps also other Tesla electric cars, such a system fits better into the product portfolio than one might initially think. In addition to electric cars, Tesla also produces photovoltaic modules and roof tiles as well as home storage batteries for the electricity they generate. If efficient technology were also added to the air conditioning at some point, it would be a logical addition – and would certainly be delighted to be bought by many Tesla fans, as initial Twitter reactions showed.

Air heat pumps similar to Model Y are already used in German heating technology. Roughly speaking, they use ambient heat to heat air or water with electricity and calculated efficiencies of several 100 percent. According to CEO Musk, the system for this in the latest Tesla is already “at the next level” and, together with the cooling function, seems to be controlled via a newly developed “Octovalve”. And as the Tesla boss also mentioned at the end of March, clean water is created during cooling, which is currently simply being drained off.

Tesla Cybertruck as a rolling house

A complete Tesla system for efficient heating, ventilation and cooling at home including clean water (and not to forget fine HEPA filtering as in Model S and Model X) sounds both technically and strategically sensible. And it would also fit in the Tesla Cybertruck, which is supposed to serve as a kind of rolling house, among other things, with a solar option even partially self-sufficient. The Tesla boss now confirmed that he was thinking about it when asked if the HVAC system was currently more appealing to him than the radical pickup: “Maybe the Cybertruck will get it …”, he wrote.
