So far, comparatively little has been read about the Gigafactory in Buffalo, northwest of New York City. Tesla calls it Gigafactory 2 (GF2) or, according to Musk, recently Giga New York. It acquired Tesla through the takeover of the photovoltaic company SolarCity and initially only produced solar modules; later, according to Tesla, the solar roof and supercharger of the new generation V3 as well as storage products were added.
Also with SolarCity, Tesla has undertaken commitments to create a certain number of jobs as compensation for public funding for the New York gigafactory. By the end of April this year, Teslarati said the company must have at least 1,460 employees in the State of New York, including 500 at the Gigafactory in Buffalo. In addition to the “Company Talk” in the Giga New York in April, Musk has now announced tours for customers and media through the factory on Twitter, where “Solar Glass and several other products are manufactured”.
However, the Tesla boss did not answer a crucial question for many observers: whether the event in New York will be the “battery information day” that some are eagerly awaiting? Musk had already announced such an event for 2019 and then postponed it to this year. At the 2019 business conference call, he said Tesla wanted battery production to be in the order of “a few thousand gigawatt hours a year” and will likely provide information about planning for it in April. What Tesla has to report is overwhelming even for himself, Musk said.
