US billionaire Elon Musk’s company allegedly outsourced surveillance of its employees on Facebook as they sought to form a union at the company’s factory in Fremont, California.

The American media CNBC cited invoices and “other documents” which would constitute proof that the public relations agency MWW was hired by the American giant to monitor the conversations of its employees on social networks.
The PR firm monitored the social media platform, and was hired “to comment on organizing efforts and to conduct research specifically on organizers,” for almost two years, between 2017 and 2018.
“It’s standard practice to examine media coverage and public social conversations about a company to better understand issues and stakeholder perceptions about the brand,” MWW PR told CNBC.
An email from Elon Musk recently leaked, in which he says he is banning telework for his employees, with exceptions subject to validation. The latter argued “that they should pretend to work elsewhere”, in a publication on Twitter.
