Tesla Accused of Cheating with Range Data: Journalists Uncover Deceptive Tactics

The investigation mentions that Tesla uses several tricks at once. A special algorithm was even written for the rangefinder, which deceives drivers about the power reserve.

Journalists have accused Tesla of cheating with data on the range of their electric vehicles. According to them, the American manufacturer uses several tricks at once to fake such data. About it reported on the Reuters website.

The investigation mentions that Tesla uses the EPA cycle to measure the range of its electric vehicles. Journalists believe that experts in electric cars knew about the machinations of the automaker.

A few years ago, Tesla began exaggerating the range of many of its electric vehicles. For this, an algorithm was written for the rangefinder, which showed drivers “optimistic” range estimates.

Interestingly, with a battery charge below 10%, cars are still capable of driving tens of kilometers. This creates the feeling that Tesla electric cars can travel even more than the declared range.

Tesla fined $2.2 million for false advertising

Journalists said that such an initiative came personally from CEO Elon Musk. It was he who wanted Tesla electric cars to look more profitable compared to competitors.

Experts of the Recurrent portal checked the real range of Tesla electric vehicles. The result was rather disastrous.

Tesla electric vehicles average 40% less than their advertised range. At the same time, this indicator decreases by another 15% in winter.

So far, Tesla has not responded to this investigation. The journalists intend to go to court so that the manufacturer is punished for fraud.

Previously Focus wrote that Tesla electric cars were banned in the Chinese city of Chengdu.
