Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus Ivan Tertel, speaking at an extended meeting of Alexander Lukashenko with the leadership of state bodies of the national security system, reported that in 2022-2023 alone, the committee’s counterintelligence identified “114 attempts to recruit our citizens, including 37 military personnel.”
“45 people who took the path of betrayal were brought to criminal responsibility. 16 foreign citizens were also detained for espionage activities,” handed over BelTA word Tertel.
The Chairman of the State Committee for State Security also said that, according to foreign intelligence data, the next “anti-Belarusian sanctions package” will be adopted by the end of February.
“It will cover 8 individuals, mainly employees of courts, law enforcement agencies, journalists, as well as 14 legal entities, including companies that have economic ties with business entities of the Republic of Belarus. It is also planned to extend the existing sanctions restrictions,” Tertel said.
