Terrorist attack with explosive chemicals foiled in Germany | Abroad

At a press conference, the German security authorities shared a striking message. In August this year, the Hamburg police, in collaboration with the security authorities, is said to have succeeded in thwarting an Islamic terrorist attack. They discovered that 20-year-old Abdurrahman C. was buying chemicals to build a bomb and also trying to obtain a hand grenade.

According to the German newspaper Der Spiegel, undercover agents would have played the game on the darknet. They were then able to arrest the man at his home during a staged transfer. During a search, chemicals were found for making a bomb.

Speaking at the press conference, Home Secretary Andy Grote spoke of a “very, very serious incident” that we “have not had before.” The potentially explosive power of the chemicals was able to cause “considerable” damage.

The news is only now coming out because security authorities now assume that there is no specific risk of an attack anymore.
