The Corsican Communist Party is in the running for the territorial elections on June 20 and 27. And it was jointly in the Place Saint-Nicolas, in Bastia, and in the Market Square, in Ajaccio, that the island communists chose to present their list “of the social and environmental left“, carried by Michel Stefani, regional secretary of the PCF, this Sunday, May 2.
Entitled “Live better in Corsica, Live better in Corsica“, – a name which originates in a”phrase we often hear in the street : one can no longer live, one can no longer live“-, the list hears”listen to this word that comes from the peoplee “and relay it in the political field,”the place where it must find an echo and concrete elements of response“.
“The slogan “Campà meglio in Corsica, Vivre meilleur en Corse” is hotly debated. Aggravated by the health crisis, inequalities are exploding, in Corsica as elsewhere! Poverty is spreading. Public officials are being questioned. In the absence of guidelines clearly in line with popular needs, disappointment and resignation may drive citizens away from the polls or divert their legitimate anger to political impasses.“, warn the Communists.
“We want to offer perspectives of resistance and struggles to all those who suffer, who are fed up with political quarrels and ideological hype instead of social justice and economic efficiency. Opening up a perspective of social and ecological change is the meaning of our commitment as communists, citizens of left-wing sensitivities and environmentalists, union and association activists, and simple left-wing citizens.“
Find a place in the Assembly of Corsica
Sixty-three names make up this list, considerably renewed compared to 2017, and where young candidates rub shoulders with older ones.
“There are activists from the trade union, associative, cultural world, activists who carry the voice of feminism, people who fight racism in our region …“, explains Michel Stefani.”All this looks like those we want to bring together today to carry this left word which no longer exists until now in the Corsican Assembly..”
The party leader thus reproaches “a kind of liberal consensus that gives pride of place to employers“within the Assembly.”If we take the Salvezza and other stimulus packages that have been implementedwork in recent months, we find that those responsible for the dear life […] are never worried about this responsibility which they have and which makes that people today live with difficulty in our region. We want to break this system and this consensus to make other anti-liberal choices.”

No common list with France Insoumise
One regret nonetheless for the Communists: it is without the support of France Insoumise that they will stand in the territorial elections. “On April 12, Inseme a Manca told us that, according to them, the conditions were not met, despite numerous convergences, to constitute a common list.“
However, if the Inseme a Manca movement decided not to lead a list, “we will address ourselves to the voters and leaders of these movements, because in this electoral campaign we can do things in common, even without a common list“.
At this time, a Communist Party still awaiting an answer, with the hope of doing better than in 2017: the rebellious Corsican / PCF list, led by Jacques Casamarta, had failed to obtain the 7 % minimum necessary to stay in the second round, with only 5.68% of the vote.
