“They wouldn’t let him near the dog, and they wouldn’t accept money,” Wallner said.
Wallner said he did not find the former owner intentionally harmed the animal, and police came to the same conclusion. Valner promised to tell more about the exact circumstances of the incident soon.
Shortly after the incident, however, Wallner said that the 82-year-old man who was driving the car did not seem to know that the dog was tied behind the car.
“The family didn’t think it was necessary to give quick first aid or couldn’t do it. Treatment and recovery will be expensive and long. Whether Wunt will return to the same family and whether the animal rescue group will ask for criminal charges will only be known after I have spoken to all parties ,” Wallner said.
What really happened?
On Thursday at around 5:30 in the evening in the village of Ruila, Harju county, road users witnessed a terrifying sight: a dog was tied behind one of the cars, which was dragging behind the car like a sack of potatoes. Miraculously, the dog managed to survive and doctors are fighting for his life.
The cruelty to the animal was also reported to the emergency center, and a police patrol arrived at the scene within minutes.
Unfortunately, by that time the driver and the dog had already left, but the police managed to find them in a nearby village. Trails of blood in the yard of a farm led to a shed where the unfortunate dog lay helplessly.
The owners said that around At 19 the local vet will come to examine the dog. The police did not agree to this, because the dog urgently needed help.
According to Wallner, the police officers themselves put the dog in their squad car and took it to the veterinary emergency clinic in Mustame.
Police turned the dog over to an animal rescue group, and the organization covered medical expenses. The doctors got to work, but many of them had never seen anything like this in their practice – the skin was literally scraped to the point of holes, the bones were visible. The dog also lost a lot of blood, which could mean serious damage to an artery or vein.
