On December 31, 2022, Oleksiy and nine other Ukrainian prisoners of war were taken out of their cells, put on two buses and told to be shot. Oleksiy had spent nine painful months in Russian captivity. He was wearing the clothes that had been ordered to be exchanged for his prison clothes a few days earlier. Oleksiy was told to strip and put on underpants with congealed excrement, blue pants similar to Ukrainian police uniforms with red stripes along the sides, which had bullet holes in the knees and pieces of flesh, congealed blood and vomit stuck to the beams.
Oleksiy was taken with the two other Ukrainian prisoners to a Russian mobile crematorium, where he spent the next six days. There he heard how the kamaz engines roared without stopping at idle, and at first he could not understand why. Only later did he understand.
Oleksiy and the two other Ukrainians were thrown into a Kamaz cargo box with high sides, stripped and beaten for six hours. “Donbass shooters, children’s crucifiers and in that spirit.” The hands were tied behind the back, it was impossible to cover the head and protect it from blows. When one of the captives fainted, he was shot. A stream of blood flowed over Oleksiy, who was lying next to him. After an hour and a half, the second prisoner also stopped responding to the blows. He was also shot.
An Armenian put a pistol to Oleksiy’s knee: “You have two minutes to tell the information that will save your life.” Oleksiy could not think of something to say to save himself. The Armenian did not fire, but Oleksiy was dragged away and left with two Russians. Oleksiy’s pants were taken off and one of the Russians asked: “Hohol, have you washed my dirs?” Oleksiy still thought it was psychological pressure, but when the plaintiff pressed his knees on Oleksiy’s calves and pressed his feet firmly to the ground, he understood what think of the Russians. He was lying face down on the ground, bound and unable to resist. “Aren’t you against Europe, against gay parades, then?” tormented Oleksiy. “I’m sorry! Europe, Putin, whatever, I want to fuck.”
The other Russian, whose feet Oleksiy saw near his face, urged his comrade to act faster, because he also wanted to catch up. Somewhat unbelieving, Oleksiy at that moment began to pray to God. He didn’t know what else to do.
