Actress Christina Applegate (51) could reveal in 2021 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, better known as MS.
According to Norwegian Health Informatics MS is a disease that causes destruction of the insulating layer (myelin) around nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord.
Screams serious diagnosis
The symptoms are due to malfunctions in the parts of the brain or spinal cord that are affected, and vary from, among other things, balance problems and lack of control of muscles, to seizures, fatigue and visual disturbances.
The actress has been open that the diagnosis has been difficult to cope with. In February, she appeared with a cane on the red carpet, and when she received a star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame” last November, she struggled to stay on her feet.
Now she hits back at journalist Candace Owens.
Ridiculed advertising
Owens recently criticized the clothing brand SKIMS, owned by Kim Kardashian (42), for using models in wheelchairs in an advertising campaign.
– Can’t walk without a cane
– I don’t understand how far we have to take this inclusivity thing. We are ridiculous, USA. “I don’t get this, and if I’m wrong, please teach me,” Owens said on his “Daily Wire” podcast, according to Newsweek.
This caused Applegate to react strongly.
“Woke up and saw something horrible. Candace comments on companies that see we need help. It’s really disgusting”, she starts by writing on Twitter.
“Tried to sleep but my mind keeps me awake. Candace Owens, do you know how hard it has been for me to get dressed? A team must help me! So I’m happy that there are accessible clothes for me and my community,” she continues.
In conclusion, Applegate writes that she does not want to be angry, and that she is more than happy to have a chat with Owens if she wants to know more about what it is like to be disabled.
The model in the campaign, Haleigh Rosa, stepped up TikTok to comment on Owens’ statements.
– I’m proud to pose in my underwear in my wheelchair, because it means I’ve come a long way. So if you don’t like it, use your legs and go for a walk!
To the British newspaper MirrorRosa elaborates more on what she thinks about the situation.
– I have an illness
– What she said was cruel. It’s disgusting and it sets a bad example. I don’t think any body is unworthy of being seen, and the fact that she chose my body to talk about how unimportant people in wheelchairs are was disturbing, she tells the newspaper.
Owens has not commented on the criticism at the time of writing.
