At Tyre, in Seneca County, New York, A Florida parent has been charged with attempted murder for attempting to set their one-year-old baby on fire.
The Seneca County District Attorney’s Office filed seven charges against Jamie L. Avery, Jr.28 years old, and Lisbeth Collado25, resident of West Palm Beach, Florida, including attempted aggravated murder of a minor.
It all happened on May 3 at dawn, at a truck stop on Route 141, where the authorities arrived because they were told that there were several fires inside a building.
Florida parents had baby covered in gasoline
Upon arrival, officers found the couple, who are now the suspects in starting those fires. Close to them, there was a one year old baby covered in gasolinewho was transported to Geneva General Hospital.
“A second four-year-old boy was found in the cab of a truck. with a trailer in the business parking lot. The second child had apparent head injuries,” the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
“It is alleged that the two suspects had poured a flammable liquid on the child a year old and tried to set it on fire inside the building. Fortunately, the two were unsuccessful,” Lt. Timothy Thompson said during a news conference.
“Protection orders were issued in favor of the victims. The motive for the crimes is still unclear,” Thompson said.
It was found a “suspicious device” in the bathroombut first responders eventually determined it was an “improvised replica” of a bomb.
“We are definitely moved by these types of cases.” And he added: “those who have children get it at home. I think we’re all doing well and we have a support system to make sure we’re doing well and continue to check in on each other to make sure we’re mentally healthy. But without a doubt, these cases take their toll and are difficult and challenging to work on,” Thompson concluded.
These are the charges facing Florida parents
The Seneca District Attorney’s Office told Univision 41 that the charges they face Jamie L. Avery, Jr. y Lisbeth Colladathey are seven:
Aggravated attempted murder,
attempted murder in the second degree,
Second degree arson,
attempted assault in the first degree,
Second degree attempted arson and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Avery and Collado remain in custody and are being held on $200K cash bail or $800K partially secured bail.
His next appearance will be July 27, 2022 for arguments on motions.
