According to initial police findings, the woman’s car – an Opel Corsa – broke down near Stillhorn. From there, she set off on foot to get help. Officers drove to the unlit and unlocked Opel, which was parked in a closed area on the A1. A short time later, emergency calls came in from passing motorists who reported a pedestrian on the motorway.

A search in the area with several patrol cars was unsuccessful, and warnings were also broadcast on the radio. Despite warnings, a terrible accident occurred: an approaching Opel driver (65) apparently failed to see the 56-year-old in the dark and hit her at high speed. She was taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later.
