Human remains found in a forest in Virginia were confirmed as belonging to Terrence Darryl Smith, a 33-year-old Queens (NYC) resident who disappeared in October and days later his bank account was emptied.
The remains were in an “advanced stage of decomposition” when they were discovered on November 16 and now the identity has been confirmed, he told Pix11 el detective Earle Swift.
Smith disappeared after taking an Amtrak train to visit a friend on October 30 and the remains were found near her home on Timber Ridge Townhouse Road, Fredericksburg, a town in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.

Swift said that The cause of death was “undetermined.” but the family said investigators told them that It could be a homicide. No one has been charged in the case, he said. The Messenger.
The family said Smith did not return home from his trip in late October and soon learned that his bank account had been emptied just days after his arrival in Fredericksburg. The victim and her unidentified friend had known each other since high school.
“I just don’t understand what’s going on,” Smith’s older brother, Michael Perry, said Tuesday of the investigation. “We know the main people involved.”
The Virginia Sheriff’s Office questioned Smith’s friend and some acquaintances shortly after her disappearance.
Smith He worked for a real estate management company in Manhattan and had been living with his visually impaired mother in Queens. He was last seen at a Target store near Fredericksburg, buying groceries and toilet paper for his friend and her children.
Smith’s sister-in-law, Diana Perry, said The friend gave three different versions of Smith’s last movements near her home.which has been evicted since the discovery of the remains.
“The first version was that he had gone with a girl. The second was that he took an Uber, the third that he mentioned to the police department was that he took Amtrak to get home. And then his son, who was present at the time, said he (Smith) went out the back door into the woods.”
According to his family, Smith He was in excellent physical shape and happy about a recent job promotion. He had received certification as a fire safety inspector at his company, his brother said. “He was very happy,” he said.
Perry was concerned about Smith’s friendship with the Virginia woman, especially after she had a “false alarm” about being pregnant from him last year.
His mother, brother and sister-in-law in New York plan to travel to Virginia to attend his funeral on Friday. “Now what needs to be done is justice,” Perry said.
