Development of Terraria 1.4.5 is well underway and is planned to be the final update for one of the best-selling games in history. But developer Re-Logic has repeatedly called past updates “the latest” only to come back with new ideas and features. Now creator Andrew Spinks is asking players whether they would like a new, more significant update, with subsequent patches, or if the team finally put an end to the development of their iconic sandbox and moved on to something new.
“Just curious,” writes the creator of Terraria in X, launching a poll with three options:
-
Delay 1.4.5 to make it better
-
Hurry up with 1.4.5, make 1.4.6
-
Complete and make a new game
The team recently showed off a new tool for their beloved sandbox game called Terraria Mitey-Titey, and it looks like new ideas continue to tempt them as they work on the update.
According to the survey results, the option “Delay 1.4.5 to make it better” won a landslide victory with 67% of the votes, in second place was “Complete and make a new game” with 23%, and “Hurry up with 1.4.5, make 1.4.6” received only 9%.
Re-Logic is also working on cross-platform play in Terraria, which they say is going well, but shouldn’t wait until 1.4.5 if it gets approved by all platforms – Valve, Sony, Microsoft, etc. Since the next update continues to grow, the team is obviously considering whether they should stick with the existing additions, polish everything up for release, or continue adding functionality for a major upgrade.
In November 2022, shortly after the release of the huge 1.4.4 update, Re-Logic Vice President Whitney Spinks suggested that
Terraria 1.4.5 should be a fairly minor update.
She noted that for something bigger like 1.5, “it would be fun, but making a new game seems a little more attractive right now.”
