There is a fire in a terraced house in Sandal in Stavanger. A large number of people have been evacuated due to the risk of spreading, and six people have been taken to hospital with smoke damage.

The police reported the fire at 03:26.
– We have sent large forces to the scene. The evacuation is ongoing. The fire is going up to the roof, says duty manager Nils Simmerøy in Rogaland fire and rescue to NTB shortly after 03.30.
The police state that more than 40 people must be evacuated.

– We have all the crews we have now, because there is also a fire in a detached house in Bryne i Time, says Simmerøy to Aftenbladet at 03.48.
He then states that the last messages from Sandal were that the fire had spread to the roof. The terraced house in which the fire is located is adjacent to other terraced houses.
No one has been reported missing
The terraced house that is on fire belongs to the Student Association in Stavanger (SIS).
– We have registered 41 residents. We are running and counting to see if we have control over everyone, but no one has been reported missing, says operations manager Steinar Knudsen in the South-West police.
– We are inside with smoke divers, says Simmerøy in the fire service at 04.20.
He then states that the fire crews now have the fire under control in the detached house at Bryne. Here, two people have been checked by health personnel.
Several rows of houses are being evacuated
At 04.26, the police inform that another terraced house in Sandal is being evacuated due to the development of smoke. There will be a total of 18 apartments.
It is still burning well at the site and the fire service defines the fire as a construction fire.
It is cold and there is a lot of smoke at the site, so it is urgent to get them evacuated indoors. The municipality assists in the work with transport and to find shelter in a hotel for the evacuees.
Gather in kindergarten
– The evacuees gather on a football field, but they cannot stay there for long. It is cold and a lot of smoke, and evacuees of all ages, says Knudsen in the police.
A little later, the police update that the evacuees have for the time being been allowed to go to a nursery on site, before they will move on to accommodation in the center of Stavanger.
Six to hospital
At 04.50 the police inform that the evacuation is extended to another terraced house. In total, it will be four terraced houses with a total of 20 apartments.
Six residents have been taken to hospital with smoke damage, while 33 people have been evacuated to the nursery.
