The new road axis, from the Terovo junction of the Ionian Road to Pigadia of the Municipality of North Tzoumerka, was temporarily opened.
It is a modern road, 10 km long, which was included in the Operational Program “Epirus 2014-2020”, with an initial budget (before contractor’s discount) of 25,000,000 euros.
The construction of the project was done almost universally on a new layout and includes two level connections of the new road with the 7th and 2nd Provincial Roads, as well as three others that restore the road connection with the existing (regional) road network.
Street lighting has also been installed at an appropriate length at all five level junctions, while a 134-meter long bridge (with street lighting) was also constructed on the main road.
During the construction of the project, an additional problem arose from a landslide on the slopes of the road (and in the last part of the specific project), after an earthquake, which was remedied by the District.
The contractor of the project is ERGODYNAMIKI PATRON SA.
The specific road axis is the first part of the road connection of Ionia Street with 2the Ioannina provincial road – Plaka Bridge. The second section from Pigadia to Gefyra – Plakas was re-auctioned last Wednesday by decision of the Economic Committee.
The Region of Epirus points out that given that the delivery of the project to traffic is temporary, additional works (such as the installation of parapets) continue, while a second stage of paving will follow, the passage of vehicles during the current period is the responsibility of the drivers.
The Regional Governor, Mr. Alexandros Kahrimanis, who visited the project today, said: “the temporary delivery of the Terovou-Pigadia Junction road is the first of a series of very large projects that are at the stage of completion in the four regional units, the delivery of which is expected to take place by the end of this year.
Already the Tyria-Bestia road axis is ready and it will also be put into temporary use in the next 24 hours. In the Ioannina basin, a large section of Niarchou Street has already been opened to traffic. In Arta, the road Piges- prefecture boundaries with Karditsa was completed. In addition to these, there are the sewage-biological cleaning projects on the coasts, the bypass of Ancient Nikopolis, the roundabouts, a number of irrigation projects that are in full development and dozens of other projects of smaller scope, but equally important for the residents of Epirus”.
