Terence Crawford snatched the title from Israil Madrimov and is the new world champion
Former Uzbek champion Israil Madrimov put his WBA super welterweight title on the line, but at the end of the night it was Terence Crawford who lifted the medal into the air at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles after 12 rounds in which contact prevailed on repeated occasions and the fight was decided by unanimous decision in favor of the American.
Crawford, one of the most explosive boxers working today, extended his impressive record and became a champion in a fourth weight class. ‘Bud’, 36, is now undefeated in 41 fights, with 31 knockouts and 10 on the scorecards. He was champion at lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight and now also super welterweight.
Crawford came in as the favourite and therefore did not rush to win. As the rounds progressed, the American constantly waited for Madrimov, who tried to lower his opponent’s guard with powerful blows, but without success.
Terence had some small flashes up front and that was enough to ultimately take the victory after 12 rounds, where the judges gave him the win with which he maintains impressive numbers in his career.
