Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Former Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto admitted that he was surprised Archipelago Vaccine which he developed had become a polemic in society. In fact, according to him, the development of the Nusantara vaccine was only carried out to assist the government in dealing with the corona virus pandemic.Covid-19).
According to Terawan, the development of the Nusantara vaccine should not be a problem. However, he admits that this has become a polemic because the development rules are relatively new.
“I’m confused what the point is. Make us, as researcher feel no problem. The rule is also, we use the new rule because vaccine cell dendritic has never been done for Covid-19,” Terawan said during a working meeting with Commission VII DPR at the Parliament Complex, Wednesday (16/6).
According to Terawan, the spread of corona virus (Covid-19) is relatively new. Therefore, vaccine development will also need to use new rules.
“So of course we have to use different new rules. Because what is injected into our bodies is our own dendritic cells, not from other people,” he said.
Terawan hopes that the development of the Nusantara vaccine will no longer be a debate. He said at this time the most important thing was that all people had the same goal, which was to end the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Most importantly we believe that all have good will, good wishes, and I believe that if we are together, sitting down together, we can get this pandemic over with properly,” he explained.
The Nusantara vaccine is known to be a polemic after the research team carried out the process of taking blood samples to a number of parties including members of the DPR, even though the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) at that time had not given permission for phase II clinical trials.
Last April, it was finally decided that the testing of the Nusantara vaccine was only for research and service purposes. In other words, the clinical trial of the vaccine is not required for distribution by BPOM.
All supervision related to research and procurement of vaccines in the archipelago is fully under the authority of the Ministry of Health.
