TEPJF receives a flood of challenges over the assignment of legislators to Congress

Mexico City. Although the National Electoral Institute (INE) identified 11 thousand reconsideration appeals that challenge the assignment of the legislators of the Congress of the Union that will be installed tomorrow Thursday, the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) reported that until 11:30 a.m. today they have received directly and through the regional chambers a total of 8,662 appeals.

The vast majority of them challenge the allocation of federal deputies based on the principle of proportional representation, since the INE endorsed the qualified majority of Morena and its allies, totaling 364 seats.

INE sources said that the number of appeals could rise to 20,000, as they have not yet concentrated all the resources, since some arrived through the INE, others directly to the higher court and also through the regional courts of the TEPJF.

However, the same sources from the electoral body said that thousands would be discarded because they were delivered outside the legal time limit.

As a result of this avalanche of challenges, the plenary session of the electoral court has scheduled a public session at 6 p.m. to resolve all these issues, because tomorrow the new legislature will be installed in both chambers.

In this way, the TEPJF is working at a forced pace, since it only has 72 hours to analyze the challenges and prepare the corresponding projects for discussion in the plenary session of the higher court.
For this reason, it is estimated that the session could start later, since the magistrates must have the projects ready before starting the discussion. In addition, they must announce them in the provisional list of issues.

With these resolutions, the TEPJF would be concluding the most relevant disagreements of the electoral process that began on September 7 of last year.
