Mexico City. For an amount of 10,857 pesos, the businessman Claudio X González was sanctioned by the specialized regional chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) as well as former president Vicente Fox, who received the same amount of sanction. Both for expressions against Claudia Sheinbaum, during the electoral ban period.
In two different matters, the plenary of this chamber determined that both the political activist and the former president of Mexico made comments on their social networks against the now president-elect when the campaign period had already ended, since on May 30 they called not to vote for Morena or Sheinbaum.
According to the draft sentence, the two abused freedom of expression, in addition to the fact that their expressions benefited the then presidential candidate of the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition, Xóchitl Gálvez, who in turn ended up with five fines for having called for votes in an interview on social networks and showing minors without permission in videos during the campaign, in addition to the fact that the magistrates determined that there was no slander against her in the second presidential debate.
After the higher court decided that the specialized court should re-examine the issue of slander, the project of this afternoon indicated that it was “non-existent,” so they did not agree with Gálvez.
In another case, this chamber of the TEPJF ruled that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador violated the fairness of the election, engaged in personalized promotion, and disseminated government propaganda at the May 15 conference.
However, in the morning press conferences on April 18 and 22, he did not violate the principles of impartiality and equity in the contest, as the PAN complained, since he made no references to the elections.
