TEPJF confirms Javier Corral’s candidacy for senator for Morena

Mexico City. The Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation confirmed the candidacy for the Senate of the former governor of Chihuahua, Javier Corral Jurado.

The PRI challenged the former PAN member, now nominated by Morena, stating that he does not meet the eligibility requirements established by the Constitution.

The project by Judge Felipe Fuentes was unanimously approved in the sense that it was not Corral’s will to have dual nationality, since he has a birth certificate in Mexico and was born in the United States, whose protection he renounced in 1991.

In that sense, the PRI’s arguments were classified as unfounded and ineffective.

The approved project indicates that the politician – registered in ninth place on Morena’s list of candidates through proportional representation – “is Mexican by birth and has dual nationality for having been born in the United States; However, this circumstance does not update the ineligibility.”

Judge Reyes Rodríguez agreed with the meaning of the proposal but pointed out that the INE itself established that people with dual nationality have until June 2 to present the nationality certificate.
