How time flies: PlayStation Plus will soon be celebrating its tenth birthday. The premium service was introduced on June 29, 2010 for the then current PlayStation 3, which came on the market in November 2006 and in Germany in March 2007.
The annual subscription cost 49.99 euros, the 90-day subscription cost 14.99 euros. In the meantime the prices have been raised a little. For a year of PS Plus you pay now around 60 euros – at least beyond special offers.
That happened in July 2010
In the first month of PlayStation Plus, Sony already awarded “free” games, discounts, exclusive items in the PlayStation Store and full test versions. From June 29 to August 3, 2010, the players the following games Download free of charge:
- Introductory offer: LittleBIGPlanet (Standard Edition)
- PSN game: Wipeout HD
- minis: Field Runners, Age of Zombies
- PSone: Destruction Derby
There were also full test versions of “Shatter” and “Savage Moon” as well as price reductions for the “LBP God of War Pack”, the “LBP: LocoRoco costume pack”, “Gravity Crash” and a “Fat Princess” DLC. Premium elements for “KillZone 2”, push demos for “ModNation Racers” and “Heavy Rain” as well as various dynamic themes rounded off the starting offer.
“Call of Duty WW2” is currently in the PS Plus offer.
After the PS Plus support for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita has been discontinued, the offer is currently limited to two full PS4 versions, discounts and some other advantages that a PS Plus membership offers. Ultimately, the offer includes:
- Two PS4 games to download each month
- Exclusive offers and discounts
- PS4-Online-Multiplayer
- 100 GB cloud storage
- PS Plus-Rewards
It can be assumed that the PlayStation Plus offering will be expanded accordingly after the launch of the PS5.
Special birthday offers?
On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary, players on various social media platforms began speculating that Sony could unlock special offers in the coming week. First of all: In fact – as far as Sony is sticking to the previous plan – the PS Plus games for July 2020 will be unveiled on Wednesday.
It would of course be possible for the PS4 manufacturer to use the anniversary to provide a surprise as early as June 29, 2020, which is the coming Monday. The following would be conceivable:
- More than two games for the PS4
- Special PlayStation Plus discounts
- Exklusive PS Plus-Themes
Maybe not too much happens at all and Sony limits itself to a few statistics that may be released on the PlayStation Blog.
