Tensions with the United States: “there will inevitably be a conflict”, warns Beijing

The gap is widening a little more between Beijing and Washington. After warnings about arms deliveries to Ukraine, China now accuses US of stoking tensions and warns against a risk of “conflict” and “confrontation”reports AFP in particular.

The warning was given on Tuesday by Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang: “If the United States continues on the wrong track and does not brake, there will be no safeguards that can prevent the derailment“, he said at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of Parliament. And to clarify that, in the event that Washington persists, “there will inevitably be a conflict and a confrontation”.

Disputes between Beijing and Washington have multiplied in recent years: the status of Taiwan, tensions in the South China Sea, imbalance in the trade balance or even the treatment of Uyghur Muslims… The day before, President Xi Jinping had still deplored Western ‘containment’ and ‘repression’ targeting Chinaciting the United States by name, and calling on the private sector to innovate more to make its country less dependent on foreign countries.

Beijing’s high-tech ambitions are under increasing restraint from Washington and its allies, prompting Chinese companies to redouble their efforts to dispense with crucial imports. Tensions crystallized by the conflict between the West and Russia and its supporters.
