The escalation of tensions in sections in Ankara was announced in grams to the CEC by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our embassy in Turkey.
The reason for the tension arose both between members of sectional commissions and between members of the commissions and representatives of one of the coalitions registered for participation in the elections. The dispute arose over the declarations that voters must fill out that they have not voted and will not vote elsewhere. The problem is when and how these declarations should be filled in – whether before the members of the section commission or to be filled in in advance.
From the discussion during the CEC meeting, it became clear that there are representatives of the coalition in question in sections in Ankara, but they are not registered with the CEC. By order of such a proxy, voting was even suspended in one of the polling stations in Ankara.
The CEC decided to instruct section commissions abroad that voter declarations should be accepted, regardless of where they were completed and signed, citing the commission’s practice from previous parliamentary elections on April 4th.
I voted against because I, as a voter, have always filled in this declaration before the section committee in the polling station. my experience in voting in sections that were in the country and not abroad “, the CEC chairwoman Kamelia Neykova motivated her negative vote.
