Tensions in the Middle East: IDF officials in the United States

Deputy military chief Herzi Halevi and other senior IDF commanders landed in the United States on Monday for an official visit amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, Halevi is to hold meetings with US defense officials at the Pentagon, and participate in a “strategic defense forum” with members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Central Command and European Command.

Mr. Halevi will be accompanied by Tal Kelman, the military official in charge of issues relating to Iran, Hidai Zilberman, the defense attaché of Israel in the United States, and Effie Defrin, the commander of international cooperation of IDF.

Halevi’s trip follows Iran’s launch of several missiles at an Israeli “strategic center” near the US consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.

The attack is believed to be in response to the deaths of two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders in a suspected Israeli airstrike near the Syrian capital Damascus last week.
