Tensions in Senegal: Call for peace from women activists, politicians and ordinary citizens …

Faced with the tension that reigns in Senegal, “women of all stripes“, Activists, politicians, ordinary citizens, etc. got together in a WhatsApp group to launch a digital campaign and call for peace.

In extenso their call:

In the name of the Lord, in the name of all citizens, mothers, wives, sisters and daughters,

We ask all the forces of the Nation to work to calm the situation which has become worrying.

We ask you to renew the threads of dialogue and allow the expression of opinions in a peaceful and responsible manner.

We ask you to ensure the safety of our youth, hope of the Nation.

We ask you to ensure the exercise of freedoms and the preservation of property.

We ask you to ensure the administration of fair justice for all.

We ask you to ensure the preservation of the Republic.

We ask you to ease hearts and tensions.

We ask you to work to keep Senegal in the beautiful trajectory of a model of peace and stability known and recognized throughout the world.

We ask all the demonstrators to remain honest and calm by respecting “living together”.

We join with all the women of Senegal in telling you that our mothers’ hearts bleed when we see blood flow, property sacked and flames rise.

We feel helpless like the whole world in the face of this pandemic so do not disperse our forces.

It is easier to destroy than to rebuild.

We call on supporters of all stripes, decision-makers, politicians, all public institutions, religious authorities, unions, the private sector, NGOs, human rights organizations, sportsmen, artists, executives, workers , artisans, the diaspora to do what is necessary to return the situation to normal.

We pray for the rest of the souls of our departed.

We pray for a Senegal of Peace.

Women of Senegal, together we will win.
