Atlanta, United States (CNN) – Tensions continued to escalate on the northern border of Israel, and Lebanon and Israel announced civilian casualties as a result of raids along the border, on Sunday.
The state-run Lebanese National News Agency reported that an Israeli raid hit a civilian car in southern Lebanon and killed four of her relatives, including three children.
The Lebanese National News Agency said that five relatives were inside the car on the road between the villages of Ainata and Aitaroun, near the border with Israel, when it was bombed.
According to the National News Agency, a grandmother and her three grandchildren were killed in the attack. The children’s mother was also injured and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The Israeli army said it was looking into these reports.
Lebanese Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah told the pro-Hezbollah Al-Mayadeen channel on Sunday that this incident was a “dangerous development.”
Hezbollah said in a statement that it bombed Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel at 7:20 pm Sunday local time, with several Grad missiles in response to the raid.
Avichay Adraee, spokesman for the Israeli army, told Arab media that an Israeli citizen was killed in northern Israel as a result of the Hezbollah attack.
Adraee said in a post on the X website: “Today, Hezbollah continued to attack Israeli military sites and civilian towns without distinguishing between civilians and military personnel. One of the attacks resulted in the death of an Israeli citizen.”
Adraee accused Hezbollah of destabilizing “security on the northern border and randomly targeting residents of the north, which threatens the stability of southern Lebanon.”
The past weeks have witnessed an ongoing exchange of fire between Israeli forces and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah across the border, following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
