Details: Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that Finland, which had maintained a neutral status for decades, became an “enemy player” after joining NATO.
Ulyanov’s direct speech: “They lived calmly and peacefully and suddenly found themselves between Russia and NATO as a member of this alliance, but since they are our neighbors, if, God forbid, there is some kind of escalation, they will be the first to suffer.”
Details: Russia this month warned Finland over a new defense agreement that gives the US broad access to the Finnish border with Russia.
It was also reported that Russia will soon deploy its newest howitzers in the Northern Military District, which borders Finland and Norway.
The head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, said that testing of the new Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled artillery systems has been completed, and their serial production has already begun.
According to him, the first pilot batch will be delivered before the end of 2023.
“I think they will appear there (in the Northern Military District) in the near future, since howitzers of this class are needed to ensure superiority over Western artillery in terms of firing range,” Chemezov said.
