A new nocturnal mobilization against the pension reform is underway this Wednesday in Lyon. The unauthorized rally began around 8 p.m. at Place des Terreaux.
600 people in the streets
According to the Rhône prefecture, around 600 people gathered in the square. Some protesters clashed with law enforcement who responded with tear gas to disperse the rally which broke into several small groups.
These clusters of demonstrators circulated on the slopes of the Croix Rousse towards the plateau and the Place de la Croix Rousse, burning garbage cans as they went. Street furniture has also been degraded, in particular by tags.
Garbage cans were set on fire in rue Ornano and rue des Chartreux. The security forces use many tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
A person would have been injured in the face during the clashes between demonstrators and police, noted BFM Lyon on the spot.
A violent group always present at the end of the evening
Another 300 to 400 people were on site at 10:30 p.m. on the Place de la Croix Rousse according to the prefecture. The group then went down towards Place Louis Pradel, then the Morand bridge to cross the Rhône and go to the 6th arrondissement.
Further damage was still observed at this time, including violent protesters trying to block certain lanes to vehicles. The national police intervene “in a determined way” to disperse them, indicates the prefect of the Rhône.
Several groups then circulated between Place Bellecour, Place des Jacobins, Place de la République and the 6th arrondissement. A rapid emergency intervention also took place at Place de la République, noted BFM Lyon on the spot.
Two fires were started by the breakers and the firefighters quickly intervened to put them out.
