tension continues in the Middle East – 2024-04-23 04:48:06

This Friday, April 19, Israel would have carried out an attack against Iranian military targets. This after Iran carried out a large-scale attack against Israeli territory last weekend.

While Israel does not usually publicly confirm its military actions, the information was revealed to the media CNN by a US official, noting that a missile would have hit Iran during the early hours of Friday.

The attack was carried out specifically against an air base and a center near Isfahan, so there is a risk that tensions in the Middle East will increase. Likewise, the official clarified that the target attacked was not nuclear.

The attack also included the use of Israeli drones, and activated the area’s air defenses during the early hours of the morning. Despite this, Iran chose to downplay the incident and has stated that it has no plans to respond again, suggesting an attempt to maintain peace in the region.

Everything indicates that Iran’s silence on plans for a possible counterattack is the result of diplomatic efforts that have been underway since Iran’s drone and missile attack against Israel last Saturday.

Iranian media and officials described this incident as the result of the impact of air defenses against three “infiltrated” drones, which they avoided calling Israeli forces.

One of these senior Iranian officials, who decided to keep his identity secret, told the news agency Reuters that there were no plans to respond directly.

“The foreign source of the incident has not been confirmed,” he said, making it clear that the whole thing was being treated as an infiltration rather than a direct attack.

While Iran appears to be downplaying the attack in a bid to maintain its image and avoid an escalation in tensions, Israel has remained silent on the incident, and its ally the United States has also refused to make official statements.

In this regard, Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, indicated in a press conference that the North American country is committed to maintaining Israel’s security, although he denied the participation of the US government in offensive operations.

Everything occurs in the midst of a context of tensions that have been the result of six months of violence in Gaza. This has raised fears that the clashes between Israel and Iran will end up turning into a direct conflict between the two powers.
