“The chairman of the German Bundestag’s foreign policy committee, Michael Roth, has indeed called on our government to ‘finally’ recognize the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria.” This was announced in his profile on the social network by the former BSP MP Georgi Kadiev.
“Roth has been an MP since 1998, a Social Democrat, he has been the Minister of State in the German Foreign Ministry for 8 years and the statement is not accidental,” Kadiev said, calling for a swift and sharp response.
Here is the call:
It is very good that the new prime ministers of Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia are meeting! Just as Northern Macedonia recognizes the Bulgarian minority there, so the ECtHR’s decision must finally be implemented and the Macedonian minority recognized in Bulgaria. In the EU, no country can decide on the language and culture of another country.
A few days earlier, US Congresswoman Claudia Teni said in an interview with VOA-Macedonia that it was “a possible option to impose sanctions on Bulgaria because of its veto on starting negotiations for Northern Macedonia’s accession to the European Union.”
The Biden administration later denied such intentions.
