Manila –
Filipina summon diplomatic envoys China on Monday (11/12) local time after the most tense confrontation between its ships and a Beijing patrol boat in South China Sea which is in dispute. Manila is even considering expelling the Chinese Ambassador from the country.
As reported AFP and Al ArabiyaMonday (11/12/2023), a number of videos released by the Philippine Coast Guard showed Chinese ships firing water cannons at Filipino ships carrying out logistical supply missions for local fishermen at Scarborough Shoal and the small garrison at Second Thomas Shoal .
The incident occurred on Saturday (9/12) and Sunday (10/12) local time.
There was also a collision between a Filipino ship and a Chinese ship in the waters of Second Thomas Shoal, where a number of Filipino soldiers were stationed on a sunken warship. Both countries accused each other of the collision.
Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Teresita Daza, in a press conference on Monday (11/12) local time stated that a diplomatic protest note had been sent against China.
“The Chinese ambassador has also been summoned,” he said.
Daza added that declaring “persona non grata” — meaning the expulsion of a foreign ambassador from a country — against China’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Huang Xilian, was also “something that should be seriously considered.”
