Tens of thousands protest against a coup in Myanmar

When the protests were over, there was a pot and pan protest against the military regime in many cities for the fifth consecutive evening.

Internet turned off

To avoid demonstrations and other forms of protest, the regime has largely turned off the internet. Providers were previously instructed to no longer pass on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The military took power on Sunday, shortly before the inauguration of the new parliament. That was the climax of mounting tensions after the elections in November. Suu Kyi’s party then achieved an absolute majority in parliament.

During and after the coup, the army arrested at least 150 people, including Suu Kyi.
