Tens of thousands of people participated this Saturday in London in the thirteenth demonstration since last October to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the sale of weapons from the United Kingdom to Israel.

The protesters, including former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn and other politicians and trade unionists, began their journey in Parliament Square to conclude in Hyde Park, where speeches were given by personalities such as the Palestinian ambassador to this country, Husam Zomlot.

The Police reported at the end of the event that they arrested one man for carrying a banner with a swastika and another for hurling racist insults at members of another smaller pro-Israel protest.

“Change will come, from campus to campus, from city to city, from country to country,” said Zomlot, alluding to the growing protests on college campuses in the United States.

“The tide is changing because this is a global movement for change, a global demand for popular power, for the power of the people,” he added.

Numerous police officers monitored the demonstration, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and which coincided with another more minority static on Pall Mall Avenue of pro-Israel activists.

More than 600 prominent former judges, lawyers and academics from the United Kingdom asked Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in a letter on April 4 to stop the arms trade with the Jewish State in order to prevent “the plausible risk of genocide in Gaza.” », and punish those who have incited it.

The conservative Executive declined to disclose the legal advice it has received on whether the Israeli Government is violating humanitarian law with its actions in the Strip.

On the other hand, the BBC reported this Saturday that the British military could be in charge of delivering humanitarian aid arriving to Gaza on ships from Cyprus on the ground, through a temporary dock being built by the United States on the Gaza coast.

The soldiers’ possible role would entail driving trucks with cargo from landing craft along the floating runway hundreds of meters long and delivering it to a secure distribution area on land in the Strip, the station explained.

The Defense Ministry in London said on Friday that the British Navy auxiliary ship RFA Cardigan Bay will provide accommodation for the hundreds of American sailors and soldiers involved in the construction of the dock, after Washington clarified that they will not enter Gaza. EFE
