Tens of thousands of Dutch people turn to banks for financial support NOW

Since the outbreak of the corona virus, 105,000 entrepreneurs and more than 17,000 consumers have turned to Dutch banks for financial support, the Dutch Banking Association (NVB) reports Thursday. Examples include deferral of payments, offering loans and providing credit for companies. The NVB writes that it involves a total of approximately 5.4 billion euros.

The largest part of this € 5.4 billion goes to financial support for companies.

Nearly 100,000 companies, most of them SMEs, have opted for a six-month extension of repayment. This involves a total of 2.4 billion euros. Another five thousand companies have approached banks for a loan or a larger amount of credit, with a total value of almost 3 billion euros.

“The corona crisis is hit hard in many branches of industry. Many companies are faced with loss of turnover and an acute need for liquidity. We hear back that postponement of repayments on current loans comes in handy, also in the prelude to the one and a half meter economy. NVB chairman Chris Buijink writes.

Of the more than 17,000 consumers, 14,000 have received postponement of mortgage payments from banks. According to NVB, that payment break usually lasts one to three months. The other approximately 3,500 consumers have been granted deferred payments on current consumer loans.
