Due to the chaos in European aviation, the number of passenger claims due to a delayed or canceled flight has risen sharply. Companies such as EUclaim, Vlucht-verraagd.nl and Aviclaim have accepted more than 38 million euros in claims since the beginning of April, reports news hour Monday.
Major player Flight-delayed.nl has had almost 70,000 claims since April. This involves around 23 million euros, confirms director Tom van Bokhoven.
People not only want a refund of their ticket, but also hope to earn additional compensation by working with the claims organization. It can go up to 600 euros.
Due to staff shortages in security and baggage handling, Schiphol has been struggling with many problems lately. The airport cannot handle the summer crowds and therefore announced measures to somewhat limit the crowds. That is also the reason that airlines will have to cancel or move many flights to other airports this summer.
Van Bokhoven emphasizes that the claims do not only come from people who were the victims of the crowds at Schiphol. “It actually happens everywhere. At Lufthansa and Ryanair, for example, there were major strikes and people who were involved are also entitled to compensation.”
news hour made a call to several claim clubs. According to the current affairs programme, the amount at EUclaim rose to 11 million euros and at Aviclaim it was a total of 4.5 million euros. If such a claim club succeeds in arranging compensation, part of that compensation is for the claim club itself.
