According to eyewitnesses, the Minsk police used water cannons in the Zamčyšča area against the demonstrators. A convoy with a water cannon is trying to push protesters out of the city center. Minsk police spokeswoman Natália Ganuševičová said that several people had been taken to the police station for investigation, Ria Novosti said.

Mass protests began in Belarus on August 9 immediately after the announcement of the results of the presidential election. The current president, Alexander Lukashenko, officially won them, but the opposition does not recognize the results and declares Sviatlana Cichanouska the winner.
