Tenor Mikhail Chulpayev will sing “The Most Beautiful Russian Romances” in Liepaja / Article / LSM.lv

On Sunday, October 25, in the Liepāja Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars” there will be a retreat with the soloist of the Latvian National Opera Mikhail Chulpajeva. In tandem with pianist Mārtiņš Zilberts, both artists will premiere the program “The Most Beautiful Russian Romances” in Liepāja, the representatives of the concert hall informed.

The organizers of the concert pointed out: “Russian romances are one of the pearls of Russian culture. Their full-blooded, aching sound is called a reflection of the Russian soul. In the favorite series “Personally” of the listeners of Liepāja Concert Hall, we will hear romances in the performance of the charismatic tenor, owner of the outstanding voice Mikhail Chulpayev. At the piano – the award-winning pianist, concertmaster of the Latvian National Opera Mārtiņš Zilberts. ”

The concert program is created especially for “Big Amber” and will be presented to the audience for the first time. In it, the artists will perform both the lyrical romances of Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, which are familiar to the listeners, as well as introduce the concert attendees to the development of the romance genre in Russian music literature to the present day.

“The concert will take place in two parts, each part drawing the line between classical and modern. In the first part there will be an opportunity to get acquainted with the compositions of Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Glinka. In the second part, we will delve into the special and sometimes experimental sound of Stravinsky ‘s music, as well as the works of Sviridov, Shchedrin and other composers, “the program was introduced by tenor Mikhail Chulpayev.

About musicians

Mikhail Chulpayev has proven himself as a solo artist at the Latvian National Opera for several seasons. This season, Mikhail Chulpayev is making two debuts on the LNO stage in Giuseppe Verdi’s operas – Alfred in Traviata and Gabriel Adoro in Simon Bokanegra. Mikhail Chulpayev has a master’s degree from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, participated in master classes by Axel Everart, Nelli Mirichoji and other vocalists, as well as improved his skills at the Opera House in the Netherlands and the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Mikhail Chulpajev was nominated for the “Grand Music Prize 2015” in the category “Young Artist”, but in 2017 he won the LNO Foundation’s Annual Award in the category “Best Opera Soloist”.

Pianist Mārtiņš Zilberts has been the chief soloist of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet since 2008. Last season, she was nominated for the Grand Music Prize 2019 for Outstanding Work in a Chamber Ensemble, while in 2018 she received the Latvian National Opera Foundation Award for Outstanding Performance during the Year. Mārtiņš Zilberts collaborates and performs with the world’s and Latvia’s most outstanding opera singers – Liene Kinči, Inga Kalns, Aleksandrs Antoņenko, Egils Siliņš and others. Concert life, performing as a soloist with an orchestra or chamber music genre, has led from regular performances in Latvia to concerts in Europe, Japan, Iceland, Russia and Canada.
