The time has come: The final showdown for the district’s Bundesliga teams is on the weekend. As expected, the women lost to Klosterneuburg 3-4 in the first round of the relegation play-off. The ladies from the all-time loyalists were a bit far from a surprise: All defeats were straight in two sets. Now it’s up to the GAK at home on Sunday (11 a.m.). The starting point is clear: the winner stays on top, the loser has to be relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga.
The Hochwolkersdorfs men are still not saved either, although the team around Thomas Pichl scored 6: 3 against Ligaprimus Anif and thus one point in the table. After the singles, Hochwolkersdorfs was 6-0 down, then won all doubles. This could mean that the doubles, which prevented promotion to the top division two years ago, could tip the scales in the relegation battle this year. “Because we can still relegate,” Pichl calculates, namely when Howodo, Linz (on the last day of play against Hartberg) and Amstetten (against Klosterneuburg) all hold at twelve points. “Then we have the worst record in this three-way comparison”, Pichl knows, which is why on Saturday (11 am) at the home derby against Seebenstein / Schiltern: “We play to win, then we have 13 points and are through.”
There is probably no title for Theresienfeld’s regional league women. The leader of the table was defeated by favorite Tulln 3: 4. This would mean that Tulln in the last round, in which Theresienfeld is free of play, would have a narrow bankruptcy against the Wachau to the championship coup.
