Tennis world rankings: Thiem loses place to Tsitsipas

Unusually after a Grand Slam tournament, there were only a few shifts in the men’s tennis world rankings in the top ten on Monday. The Greek finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas ousted Austria’s Dominic Thiem from fourth place, while the new tenth is the Spaniard Alberto Bautista Agut. Stuttgart semi-finalist Jurij Rodionov reached a career high in 135th place after reaching the semi-finals from Stuttgart. The women’s ranking at the top remained unchanged at all.

The world rankings from Monday are also decisive for the allocation of the Olympic quota places. In the singles of the Austrians only Thiem takes a quota place as fifth. The Lower Austrian has also emphasized several times that he wants to compete in the games. Since the combined ranking from the best single or double placement counts for the doubles, Thiem has the best chances with Jürgen Melzer (double 24th). Also the team Oliver Marach (30th) – Philipp Oswald (36th).

It now remains to be seen which quota places will be used internationally. Then the Austrian Association (ÖTV) will see more clearly and make a decision. There is no possibility of qualification for women and therefore also in mixed.
