Tennis: Wawrinka eliminated in three sets in New York

There are no more Swiss at the US Open. The day after the elimination of Dominic Stricker and Viktorija Golubic, Stan Wawrinka, number 176 at the ATP, was beaten in three sets in the first round of this fourth and final round of the Grand Slam. He lost 4-6 6-7 3-6 against Italian Mattia Bellucci (ATP 101).

Sometimes Wawrinka hit good shots, but he made too many mistakes. He also admitted on the RTS microphone: “It was bad, bad, bad. It’s always the same when you can’t connect two good performances together. You come up against young players who give everything, and you can’t keep up anymore.

Wawrinka was two points away from winning the second set, but eventually let it slip away. So he ends his Grand Slam season with two victories, one at Roland-Garros, one at Wimbledon.
