Tennis: Tennis’ big three continue to terrorise the top: Won 55 of the last 64 Grand Slams

Tennis’ big three cannot be stopped. Despite talk around Roland Garros tipping one of the ‘next generation’ to come out on top, nobody has been able to take the French Open away from the claws of the game’s greats – Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer.

The reality is that the big three have won 55 of the last 64 Grand Slams played, with Djokovic becoming the latest on Sunday as he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in an incredible match in Paris.

The win was Djokovic‘s second French Open after 2016, and his 19th Grand Slam overall, leaving him one behind Nadal and Federer.

Nadal, Federer and Djokovic‘s dominance of tennis has only been interrupted by Juan Martin del Potro (US Open, 2009); Andy Murray (US Open, 2012, Wimbledon, 2013 and 2016); Stan Wawrinka (Australian Open 2014, French Open 2015 and US Open 2016); Marin Cilic (US Open 2014) and Dominic Thiem (US Open 2020).

Djokovic (seven) and Nadal (four) have themselves won 11 of the last 12 Grand Slams on offer. Federer is without a win since his Australian Open triumph in 2018.

With Wimbledon to come on June 28, the three will want to maintain their status as tennis’ very best.
