Thiem skips the Rome qualifier and hopes for the Paris wildcard/archive

DLichtenwörther Dominic Thiem may not return to competitive tennis until he qualifies for the French Open.
The 30-year-old canceled his trip to Rome after losing in the second round of qualifying for the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid against Thanasi Kokkinakis (AUS) a week ago. It would be possible to play at the ATP tournament in Geneva before Paris. But only if he gets a wild card for Roland Garros.
Moritz Thiem confirmed this on Tuesday in response to APA’s request. Everything was given by the Austrian number 1, Sebastian Ofner, who was finally eliminated in the first round in Madrid and was physically weak. “Ofi had problems with his neck, he was a little sore. Now he is doing well again,” explained Thiem’s manager.
Ofner’s appearance at the Foro Italico in Rome (from May 8) is guaranteed, and he can play before the French Open in Geneva. In Paris, of course there will be a round of 16 last year in the main competition. Thiem is preparing for his next assignment in Traiskirchen and Oberpullendorf.
