Stricker himself is calm, even if he says: “It’s a real shame.”

At last. After many years in which almost everything revolved around Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka, Switzerland has a promising tennis talent again. His name: Dominic Stricker. The only 18-year-old from Bern last thrilled at the ATP tournament in Geneva, beating former US Open winner Marin Cilic (Kro), among others. It goes without saying that a Grand Slam debut at the French Open (from May 24th) would now be the perfect reward.
–
Bloss: Nothing will come of it! Although Stricker has made a huge leap forward in the world rankings since the beginning of the year (749 places), with 419th place he is currently not close to those players who are allowed to compete in the main field. Although it will appear on Monday at number 334, it is not enough for the necessary top 250.

Father Stephan: “I don’t understand it”
Now some will intervene: “Stricker is the reigning junior champion in Paris!” That’s right, you could therefore offer him one of the 16 wild cards as recognition. But the French Open organization around tournament boss Guy Forget is not thinking about it.
–
15 tickets for the main tableau go to the French and one to Australia. Stricker’s father Stephan: “It is incomprehensible to me that a junior double Grand Slam winner does not automatically qualify for a wildcard. That is a very, very shame. “
–
Stricker stays calm
One thing is certain: fighting against it is useless. It is up to the Grand Slam organizations to decide who they distribute their wildcards to. It is common for their own talented compatriots to play a role.
–
Dominic Stricker takes it more or less calmly: “It’s a real shame. Of course it would have been cool to compete in Paris. I just have to keep working hard and move up the ranking so that I can go to a Grand Slam in the future without a wildcard. “
–
You can tell: Stricker not only looks very tough on the ground, but also in the head. His program instead of the French Open is called the Kiseljak Open. He will compete in the ITF tournament in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is endowed with 25,000 US dollars.
