In the tennis world, there are discussions about introducing a vaccination requirement to be allowed to play on the ATP tour – and there were probably many who raised their eyebrows when Tsitsipas earlier this week expressed his opinion on the issue.
– The vaccine has not been tested enough, and for us young people I think it is good to spread the virus so you build up immunity, he said.
Giannis Oikonomou, spokesman for the Greek government, is concerned about the star’s statement
– Stefanos Tsitsipas is a fantastic athlete, his qualities and contribution to the sport in the country are indisputable, he says according to Tennis 365 and continues:
– But what is at stake is his ability to assess the need for vaccinations or whether the vaccine has been tested for a sufficiently long time. And … he has no knowledge of either studies or research that would give him the right to form an opinion about it, he says.
