Tennis, Rublev reveals: “I risked losing a testicle”

Andrey Rublev he risked losing a testicle. The Russian tennis player himself revealed this in Stockholm, before the quarter-final match of the Swedish tournament against the Swiss Stan Wawrinka.

The episode happened after the US Open, when the current no. 7 in the ATP ranking lost in the round of 16 against the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov. Rublev he complained of a “strange pain” in his testicles and went to hospital: “The doctors immediately checked me out and took me in urgently for surgery. They explained to me that it is necessary to operate within five or six hours if the blood stops flowing to the testicle, otherwise the only possibility is amputation: I was lucky because they operated on me three or four hours after the first pain I felt, so they managed to make it in time. The last thing I remember of the operating room, before they put me to sleep, is the form they made me sign authorizing the amputation of my testicles.”

The story of the tennis player, half amused and half embarrassed

Rublev recounted the story between amused and embarrassed: “Fortunately everything is fine now. I don’t know how to intelligently define what happened to me. If I have to talk about it in a funny way, I would say that…I almost lost the ball.”
