Tennis player Linda Fruhvirtová advances to second round in Ningpo, China

Tennis player Linda Fruhvirtová advanced to the second round at the tournament in Ningpo, China, after defeating Rebeka Masárová from Spain. Second seed Petra Kvitová was also successful, defeating German qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam 7:6, 6:1.

The 18-year-old Czech won her first win on the WTA circuit since June.

Masárová gave up the match at 1:6, 6:2 and 1:0 for Fruhvirtová, who saw success after a streak of nine defeats.

The 18-year-old Czech will play fourth seed Anna Blinkova from Russia for a place in the quarterfinals.

Kvitova appeared on the court in Ning-po for the first time since being eliminated in the 2nd round of the US Open by Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacka.

The 14th ranked player in the world took a 5:1 lead in both sets against Friedsamová (112th), ranked almost one hundred places lower.

In the first set, however, she did not keep the lead and won it only after winning 7:2 in the tie-break, in the second set, on the contrary, she converted the first match point to 6:1.

The two-time Wimbledon champion successfully challenged the umpire’s decision on the last ball after her opponent’s drive, which changed the linesman’s correct ruling.

In a match played in high humidity, Kvitová converted all seven break points, recorded five aces, but also eight double faults.

In the 2nd round of the tournament, which is played for the first time in the WTA 250 category, Kvitova will face Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan on Wednesday.

Nosková finally against the Japanese

Jelena Rybakinová, the fifth ranked tennis player in the world, withdrew from the tournament in Tokyo, which she was supposed to start against Linda Nosková on Tuesday.

According to the WTA website, Rybakin is ill. Nosková, the only Czech participant in the Tokyo event, will play against the domestic Himeno Sakacume instead of her opponent from Kazakhstan.

Last year’s Wimbledon champion Rybakin pulled out a day after heavily criticizing the WTA for denying the third seed a first-round bye in Tokyo.
