Tennis – Opel of Australia: lower endowments for 2021

In the context of the health crisis, the winners of the Australian Open will receive a decrease in funding for 2021 in order to help the most modest players on the circuit by increasing the gains of the first rounds.

If the prize money for the Australian Open remains the same as in 2020 ($ 71.5 million), the price money will be down significantly compared to last year. The male and female winner will receive a lower endowment of 33% : in 2020, Novak Djokovic and Sofia kenin had earned $ 4,120,000, but in 2021, they will only earn $ 2,750,000. Finalists and semi-finalists will also receive fewer prizes.

In order to come to the aid of the less upscale players on the circuit, the players eliminated in the first rounds will therefore have increased endowments: for a defeat in the first round, each player will receive 100,000 Australian dollars, an increase of 15% compared to last year. Same logic for the doubles, the winners will touch 21% and 11% less than in 2020 with a greater redistribution for the first rounds.

Here is the detail of the price money for the 2021 edition of Australian Open :
