Markéta Vondroušová defeated Elina Svitolinová in the quarterfinals of the clay tournament in Rome.
Defending champion Karolína Plíšková was already leading 6: 3 and 3: 1 in the quarterfinal duel with Elis Mertens and it looked like a quick progress, but the opponent turned the second set and had to decide the winner only in the third set. In it, however, Plíšková gave Mertens no chance and gave her a canary.
Markéta Vondroušová entered the match with Elina Svitolinová with an unfavorable balance of three lost duels and not a single victory. This time, however, she succeeded against the Ukrainian and in the second set, even like Plíšková Mertens, she even gave her a canary. She advanced to the semifinals in 80 minutes after sets of 6: 3 and 6: 0.
