Alexander Zverev has overtaken his idol Roger Federer in the tennis world rankings despite his early defeat in Miami.
The 23-year-old from Hamburg, who had already lost in the second round of the hard court Masters in Florida, climbed one place to sixth. The undisputed leader is Novak Djokovic (Serbia), who, like Federer, is currently on pause.
Miami winner makes big leap
The newcomer of the week is the Pole Hubert Hurkacz, who jumped 21 places to 16th after his surprising title win in Miami. Sebastian Korda (USA) even rose 22 places after reaching the quarter-finals, the son of the former Grand Slam winner Petr Korda is now in 65th place.
In the women’s category, Ashleigh Barty (Australia) secured first place ahead of Naomi Osaka (Japan) with her triumph in Miami. The best German is still Angelique Kerber in 25th place. The 33-year-old from Kiel was eliminated in Florida in the third round.
